546 people, including Rohingya, sent back to Myanmar in August: BGB
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 546 Myanmar nationals (most of them Rohingya) and sent them back to their country in August while trying to enter Bangladesh. In the same month, a large amount of smuggled goods, weapons and narcotics were seized in border operations.
The BGB said that a total of 177.21 crore 30 thousand taka worth of smuggled goods were seized in their operations last month. These include gold, silver, ready-made garments, Than cloth, cosmetics, imitation jewelry, fireworks, wood, tea leaves, betel nut, fertilizer, coal, yarn, vehicle parts, onions, garlic, sugar, seeds, chocolate and a large amount of consumer goods.
The weapons recovered included three domestic and foreign pistols, a revolver, an SMG, three rifles, 16 magazines, and 815 rounds of bullets.

In addition, the recovered narcotics include 1.237 million pieces of Yaba, 4.5 kg of heroin, 7,888 bottles of Phensedyl, 9,525 bottles of foreign liquor, 167 liters of Bengali liquor, 577 cans of beer, 1,548 kg of marijuana, 255,698 packets of bidi-cigarettes, 202 kg of tobacco leaves, 20 bottles of LSD, about 175,000 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,145 bottles of Escafe syrup, 20,720 Anegra/Senegra tablets and more than 1.8 million other tablets and medicines.
BGB operation resulted in the arrest of 209 smugglers. 160 Bangladeshis and 11 Indian nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the border.
